Courts staring at $200 million loss under Brown budget

Trial courts avoided a feared sweep of their savings in Gov. Jerry Brown's budget proposal Thursday, but the courthouse construction program still faces the loss of $200 million.

Trial courts avoided a feared sweep of their savings in Gov. Jerry Brown's budget proposal Thursday, but the judicial branch still faces the loss of $200 million. Rather than taking that money from courts' reserve funds, as the state Department of Finance discussed late last year, the money would instead come from the already hammered courthouse construction program.
