County's Foster-Care System Fails 'Crossover Kids'

Forum Column - By Dara K. Reiner - Few people know what happens to abused and neglected children once they are removed from the care of a parent. Far fewer are aware that foster children in Los Angeles County routinely suffer physical and sexual abuse at the hands of a foster parent, that many run away from foster care to live on the streets, that many are overmedicated and ultimately placed in psychiatric hospitals or that all suffer from extraordinary feelings of abandonment.
