California Supreme Court Justice Joyce L. Kennard will undergo surgery next week to remove what's believed to be a benign growth from her abdomen, the court announced Wednesday.

California Supreme Court Justice Joyce L. Kennard will undergo surgery next week to remove what's believed to be a benign growth from her abdomen, the court announced Wednesday.
The unforeseen procedure will require Kennard to miss the busiest oral argument calendar of the year, but she still plans to participate in the cases with permission of the attorneys involved.
