Justices Refuse Review of Gay-Marriage Ruling
WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a challenge to the only state law sanctioning gay marriages. The justices, without comment, rejected review of a decision by the Boston-based 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that the Massachusetts Supreme Court did not violate the U.S. Constitution's clause guaranteeing every state a "republican form of government" when it ordered the state to recognize same-sex marriages. Largess v. Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts , 04-420.
