A Jail Death Gives Plaintiffs' Cases New Life

Andrew M. Stein represented the elderly father of 41-year-old John Derek Chamberlain, who inmates at the Theo Lacy Facility jail in Orange sodomized, stomped, kicked and beat to death on Oct. 4, 2006, under the false impression he was a child molester.

      SANTA ANA - A report from a special grand jury in April blasted Orange County sheriff's deputies for watching television while inmates in a county jail beat another inmate to death. Every day, the report said, deputies guarding the jail sleep on the job, don't patrol and leave discipline to other inmates to impose by force.
