High Court Takes Death Row Case

The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday it took a capital case in which a death row inmate missed a filing deadline through no fault of his own.


WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday that it took a capital case in which a death row inmate missed a filing deadline through no fault of his own and the state failed to act after court orders mailed to the inmate's lead attorneys were returned to a court clerk with "return to sender - left firm" written on the envelopes. The case is Maples v. Allen, 10-63, out of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
