Black judges honor a long-awaited justice

New California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger was given the judicial section of the California Association of Black Lawyers' "Black Gavel" award at a low-key event featuring a number of prominent state and federal judges.

DOWNEY - It was a who's who of California black legal elite, including California's newest state Supreme Court justice, Leondra Kruger. At a dinner at the California Association of Black Lawyers on Wednesday night, Kruger was given the "Black Gavel" award, as nearly 100 judges representing virtually every facet of the state and federal judiciary watched on.
