‘Drive-by’ disability suits in Sacramento’s sights

A growing cry to curb so-called 'frivolous' lawsuits against businesses over disability access regulations has yielded three bills so far this session, with a fourth on the way.

Restaurant owner Chris Chavez said his "heart went through the floor" when he learned he was being sued for over $60,000 under the Americans with Disabilities Act. According to the lawsuit, Marie's Mexican Kitchen in Merced was considered inaccessible to disabled people because of the grade of the parking lot, limited restroom access and other issues.
