Conservative stalwart reflects on his tenure

In an interview Tuesday, newly retired state Supreme Court Justice Marvin R. Baxter was sanguine about the possibility that recent turnover on the court will usher in a progressive era - and the rollback of some of his rulings.

SAN FRANCISCO - Justice Marvin Baxter has been a leading conservative on the California Supreme Court for 24 years but on the heels of his retirement he said he has no regrets he turned his seat over to Gov. Jerry Brown to appoint someone potentially far more liberal as his replacement.
