AB 2222: Density bonus bill will rein in incentives

Gov. Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 2222 last year to establish constraints upon the use of incentives provided by the state's density bonus law.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 2222 last year to establish constraints upon the use of incentives provided by the state's density bonus law. The purpose is to eliminate incentives previously available unless the developer agrees to replace preexisting affordable units on a one-for-one basis. The bill will remove incentives to undertake density bonus projects where existing units are subject to rent control ordinances.
