Copyright preempts Royalties Act, court rules

A U.S. District Judge dismissed a class action lawsuit filed by several artists for royalties.

A district judge dismissed with prejudice Tuesday a class action that accused auctioneers Sotheby's Inc., Christie's, and eBay Inc. of dodging royalties they were obligated to pay through the California Resale Royalties Act (CRRA), effectively rejecting its applicability.
