Lawyer Must Stand Trial for Extortion

LOS ANGELES - A Monterey Park attorney faces trial on charges he tried to extort money from a San Gabriel businessman. At the conclusion Monday of a preliminary hearing, Judge Carlos A. Uranga ordered attorney Chunping Shen, 44, to stand trial on one count of attempted extortion. However, Uranga did not find enough evidence to order Shen's co-defendant, Lian Wang, 45, to stand trial. People v. Shen, GA046875 (L.A. Super. Ct., filed Aug. 28, 2001).
