Copter Catastrophe

Jurors agreed a utility's failure to light a tower near a Marine base caused a nighttime crash that killed four.

On the night of Jan. 22, 2004, four U.S. Marines - Capt. Adam E. Miller, 1st Lt. Michael S. Lawlor, Staff Sgt. Lori A. Privette and Cpl. Joshua D. Harris - were killed when their helicopter hit an unlit utility tower in Talega Canyon, in the northwest corner of Camp Pendleton in San Diego County.
