The mystery over what Apple Inc.'s longtime intellectual property counsel was up to when he left the company last summer is solved.
On Thursday, Richard "Chip" Lutton Jr. announced that he would be the general counsel of Nest Labs Inc., a home networking and thermostat startup formed in Palo Alto by a group of former Apple employees. Lutton's appointment was effective on April 3.
