Federal prosecutors taking somewhat softer approach toward pot shops
Most U.S. attorney's offices in California do not appear to be pursuing dispenaries as aggressively since an August 2013 memo from Deputy Attorney General James Cole, lawyers say.

Even as some states legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes, U.S. attorneys in California - the first state to legalize medical marijuana - have not dropped their prosecution of dispensaries and individuals cultivating and selling pot as medicine.
