Sturdevant said her efforts to enforce insurance coverage for autism treatment should give scores of children a chance to be contributing members of society.


As lead counsel, she developed the California Department of Insurance's legal position that the state's mental health parity law requires insurers to cover what is known as applied behavior analysis therapy - recognized as the standard of care for autism - whenever it's medically necessary.
