Progressives inconsistent when it comes to states' rights
The pride and progressivism cheered by many liberals in the marijuana debate is routinely derided and decried in discussions regarding similar state action involving abortion laws.
Colorado and Washington have legalized recreational use of marijuana and another 20 states, plus the District of Columbia, permit its sale for medicinal purposes. At the same time, marijuana remains classified and proscribed, together with heroin, as a Schedule I drug under federal law.
More states, including California, appear poised to approve (and tax) recreational use of pot over the next few years. Proponents of legalization increasingly are moving beyond ad hominem assaul...
