Judge grants final approval to $39M data breach deal

A medical information data breach settlement with the largest per-person cash payout to date received final approval in Orange County.

An Orange County Superior Court judge granted final approval to a $39.5 million data breach settlement thought to be the largest known cash-per-person agreement under the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act.

St. Joseph Health System, which owns 14 facilities in California, Texas and New Mexico, agreed to pay $242 to each of about 31,000 Californians...
