Court Opens Door to Use of Pot by Very Ill

SAN FRANCISCO - A federal appeals court opened the door Monday to legal distribution of medical marijuana for terminally ill patients in California, ruling that a trial judge has the authority to consider "medical necessity" as an exemption from the federal law making the drug's use illegal.
