South Santa Clara, Monterey counties a mixed bag

The 2000 Kosmont Cost of Doing Business Survey -National Online Edition shows that this region is neither a great bargain for businesses nor as expensive as the state's biggest cities. Four communities are presented here: Gilroy and Monterey in south Santa Clara County and Monterey and Salinas in Monterey County. With their patchwork of low and no-so-low business, property and utility taxes, the cities add up to a mixed bag in terms of locally imposed costs.
