Bank of America successfully bid $3 million for the domain name loans.com, setting a record for the highest price ever paid for a domain name at auction. BofA's winning bid dwarfed the big auction prices paid for other business names such as WallStreet.com ($1.03 million) and ForSaleByOwner.com ($835,000). The name was sold at GreatDomains.com by Marcelo Siero, a San Jose computer consultant who ostensibly registered the name to create an e-commerce application, then decided to sell it instead.
