January activity shows state construction on steady course

California's building construction volume for January totaled $3.1 billion. Seasonally adjusted, January's total was an annual rate of $47.6 billion, up 0.8 percent from December and up 6.8 percent from January 1999.

According to statistics gathered by the Construction Industry Research Board, that annual rate was higher than forecasts for all three construction sectors.
