Latina lawyers group hosts celebration dinner
The Latina Lawyers Bar Association hosted its 16th annual awards and scholarships dinner on Oct. 5 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. At the event, the organization installed Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles managing attorney Ana M. Storey and Littler Mendelson PC shareholder Rebecca M. Aragon as incoming co-presidents. The association also presented the Mary V. Orozco Abriendo Caminos award to Rita Morales Patton, assistant general counsel and vice president of business affairs at Turner Broadcasting Systems Inc. The Francisca Flores Community Service award was given to Angelica Salas, executive director for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles. And Rita Moreno, the first and only Latino or Latina to have won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards, took home the association's inaugural Luminaria award. The evening also included the awarding of scholarships to 10 California law school students. — Ben Adlin
