The Troubled Bankruptcy of 'Fifth Beatle'

Billy Preston always seemed to be grinning behind the piano as he sang his hit songs or performed with the Beatles. No one is smiling as they try to sort out whether he intended to file a Chapter 11 petition before he died.

SANTA ANA - Billy Preston always seemed to be grinning behind the piano as he sang his hit songs or performed with the Beatles. No one is grinning now in a protracted legal battle over the bankruptcy Preston may or may not have filed prior to his 2006 death.

Little progress has been made in the case, and lawyers on both sides are sniping at each other and even at the judge.
