Staples Center hosts lawyers' league all-stars
Top players from the Landau Lawyers League nominated to represent their teams joined together to compete in closely contested games at Staples Center on Aug. 25. In the fifth annual event, members of summer basketball teams from each of three ability levels — A, B and C — formed two pairs of all-star teams that pitted Los Angeles rivals against one another. In the first game, the Lakers edged out the Clippers, 41-39. Lakers player Etienne Cooper of Freeman Freeman took home the MVP award, while the Clippers' Nima Javaherian of Bingham McCutchen was named player of the game. The second game pitted the Bruins against the Trojans, and in a result that should please UCLA alumni, the Bruins clawed their way to a 46-40 victory. Team member Ayo Omotosho of Blakely Sokoloff clinched the MVP title. The player of the game was the Trojans' Michael Davis of Gibson Dunn. — Ben Adlin
