Former state elections regulator sworn in for Federal Election Commission post
Outgoing Fair Political Practices Commission Chairwoman Ann Ravel was sworn in as the newest member of the six-person Federal Election Commission on Oct. 25 by U.S. District Judge William H. Orrick of the Northern District. The ceremony took place in Orrick's courtroom. Ravel has headed the FPPC, which enforces the state's campaign finance laws, since 2011. She previously served for two years as a deputy U.S. attorney general and spent 11 years as county counsel of Santa Clara. President Barack Obama nominated her to the FEC. — Emily Green
