Institute honors Best Best & Krieger lawyer with award

The Sacramento chapter of the Urban Land Institute honored Best Best & Krieger LLP of counsel Joseph E. Coomes Jr. last month as the first recipient of its Lifetime Visionary Honor award. Given during an Oct. 17 dinner event, the award will be named in his honor going forward, the institute announced. "Through his 35-year membership in ULI, and as one of the most respected land-use, redevelopment and public law attorneys in California, we are pleased to be recognizing such an iconic figure in the Sacramento real estate and land use community," Gladys Cornell, chair of ULI Sacramento, said in a statement. Coomes joined Best Best & Krieger in 2010. He is known for negotiating the development of San Francisco's Yerba Buena Gardens and San Jose's Silicon Valley Financial Center. — Jill Patton
