State attorney general names appellate lawyer as solicitor general

The newly revamped office will have more wide-ranging authority, including responsibility for arguing all the state's cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris on Monday named appellate attorney Edward DuMont to fill the state's newly strengthened solicitor general position, replacing Manuel Medeiros who retired in December.
