State Bar approves plan to raise dues $50 for legal aid, with an opt-out provision

State Bar leaders have unanimously voted to push ahead with a proposal that would kick up annual attorney dues $50 and siphon the proceeds to ailing legal aid services in California. Lawyers have the option of declining the fee hike.

SAN FRANCISCO - State Bar leaders have unanimously voted to push ahead with a proposal that would kick up annual attorney dues $50 and siphon the proceeds to ailing legal aid services in California. Lawyers can opt out of the fee hike, though the current plan has them automatically signed up to pay more.
