The U.S. attorney's office in the Northern District is losing one of its top chiefs, right at a time of a hard hiring freeze at the Justice Department.
Miranda Kane, head of the criminal division, will depart June 7. She has been in the role since November 2010, soon after U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag took over. Kane said she plans to keep working, but not until she takes a little break this summer.
