Rent Control Is Not a Taking, Court Decides
Narrowly rejecting an innovative attack on rent control, a closely divided California Supreme Court ruled Monday that a landlord may not seek compensation for an unlawful "taking" on the theory that a rent control ordinance has failed to achieve its stated goals of relieving a housing shortage.
