There's a better way to elect judges
Political corruption — the use of power for illegitimate private gain by government officials — is the expected result of a system that allows judges who make important decisions for litigants to take money from those litigants. By Jacqueline Goodman





This piece began several months ago in response to two seemingly unrelated issues concerning judicial officers in Orange County. In one case, a superior court judge, having suffered public censure by the Council on Judicial Performance, sought to head off any would-be challengers in the next election by securing a large host committee of $1,000-donor lawyers commonly appearing before him for a harmless fundraiser.
