San Diego prosecutors target elder abuse crimes in long-term care facilities

A pilot project launched in June by the San Diego County district attorney's office is the first of its kind in the state to create a specialty unit for these cases, legal observers said.

SAN DIEGO - Deputy District Attorney Paul Greenwood grabbed a stack of papers he found in his mailbox last week and held it high in the air.


The documents - courtesy of the Department of Social Services - outlined allegations of neglect at an assisted living facility for the elderly in San Diego County. The department had investigated the incident and decided it might be worthy of criminal charges. ...
