A veteran prosecutor who successfully tried Phil Spector and the killer of racing legend Mickey Thompson declared his candidacy Monday for Los Angeles County district attorney.
Deputy district attorney Alan Jackson announced he has filed to run in the 2012 nonpartisan primary. Incumbent Steve Cooley, whose term expires at the end of 2012, has said he's not likely to seek a record fourth term.
