Lawyer basketball playoffs wrap up

The Landau Lawyers League basketball playoffs have concluded for the summer season, with local attorneys competing in championships across three divisions. In the "A" Division championship game, Mayer Brown slipped past Girardi Keese to take the game, 54-48. Jerry Tennison of Mayer Brown tallied 18 points and took home MVP accolades. Girardi Keese player Greg Crum was named player of the game with 12 points. In the "A" semifinals, Girardi Keese trounced Lateral Link, 74-41, and Mayer Brown advanced over Sheppard Mullin by forfeit. In the "B" Division, Irell & Manella bested Latham & Watkins, 56-40. MVP Lee Linderman of Irell scored 24 points, and player of the game Francis Sillona of Latham scored 11. In the division semifinals, Irell eliminated Pillsbury, 65-55. Latham edged out Sidley Austin, 50-45. The league's "C" Division also saw an Irell & Manella championship, with the team narrowly triumphing over Lewis Brisbois 54-51. David Jackson of Irell took home MVP honors with 21 points, and Malcom Odoh of Lewis Brisbois was named player of the game with 17. Registration is currently open for the fall basketball season, which begins Sept. 9. — Ben Adlin
