San Diego County’s district attorney and sheriffs’ department are teaming up to combat the sale of designer drugs, including a popular and deadly drug commonly known as “bath salts.” Their first course of action is the distribution of letters to nearly 100 businesses in San Diego County warning them of possible criminal or civil penalties they could face if they don’t comply with a new state law banning the sale of synthetic drugs. The first group of letters was sent Tuesday to mini-marts, convenience stores and other businesses that have been known to sell the drug bath salts. Assembly Bill 486 states that it is illegal to sell, dispense, distribute, furnish, administer or possess for sale synthetic stimulants known as bath salts and went into effect Oct. 9.
