States Same-Sex Unions Are Not Equal, History Shows
By Kevin Notre Soon a same-gender union entered into in Vermont will entitle a same-gender couple to obtain the same benefits and protections afforded by Vermont to married opposite-sex couples. See Baker v. State of Vermont , 744 A.2d 864 (1999). Last week, the Vermont House approved a bill to allow same-gender couples to form "civil unions," which basically amount to marriages in everything but the name.
