California Western School of Law Dean Steven R. Smith received the Law Library Justice Foundation’s Bernard E. Witkin “Educator of the Year” Award on March 28. The award honors members of the San Diego legal community for civic leadership and excellence in the teaching, practice, enactment or adjudication of the law. “Dean Smith was an easy choice. He was selected because of his successful tenure as dean and his service to the legal profession through his membership in a large number of national, state, local and university commissions, committees and working groups,” said retired Judge Victor E. Bianchini, chair of the Law Library Justice Foundation’s Witkin Awards Selection Committee. “In addition, he is a delightful person with a wonderful sense of humor. In short: a class act all the way around.”
