The Japanese American Bar Association held its annual Installation and Awards Gala on Mar. 9 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The event featured Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Sabrina Shizue McKenna as keynote speaker. Congressman Adam Schiff, who represents California’s 29th District, was one of two award recipients. He was honored for a bill he introduced that included paying tribute to the U.S. Army 100th Infantry Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team, commonly known as the “Go For Broke” regiments, as well as the Military Intelligence Service, Japanese-American troops who fought in Europe and the Asia-Pacific theater during WWII, and were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto was recognized for his work on behalf of victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami tragedies. Frank Buckley, co-anchor of the KTLA Morning News, emceed the gala. —Connie Lopez
