The California Bar Foundation gave away $257,500 in scholarships to 44 aspiring lawyers Sept. 22 at the offices of Reed Smith LLP in San Francisco. Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye congratulated the recipients of the grants, designed to help minority law students and those who are planning to practice public interest law. “I see in your eyes my memory,” she said, giving a special “shout out” to James Beck and Michael Wu, the two scholarship recipients from her alma mater, UC Davis School of Law. — Laura Ernde
