The Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators hosted its managing partners luncheon Wednesday, welcoming UC Irvine School of Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky as the event’s keynote speaker. In a wide-ranging talk on the forces at work in the legal profession, the leader of the fledgling law school acknowledged increasing client demands at law firms, questioned the quality of outsourced legal work and argued for reform in judicial pay and campaign finance. As the industry adapts to changes in technology and the economy, he said, law firms and law schools need to collaborate to ensure students are well prepared to begin their careers. Chemerinsky also discussed the American Bar Association’s latest model ethics rules regarding conflicts of interest, offering attorneys a chance to pick up continuing legal education credit.
