K. Erik Friess of Nossaman completed the Avalon Benefit 50 Mile Run on Catalina Island on Saturday. Friess, a partner is the firm’s Orange County office, has completed 26 marathons since 2000 but says he got serious about [running] in 2005 — “probably not a coincidence that I turned 40 that year,” he joked. The 29th annual Avalon run was a challenge for Friess, even though he has a particular love of trail runs. “That one may kill me,” he mentioned weeks before the race. While it may have physically wiped him out, the race certainly did not dim Friess’ athletic spirit: “My goal is 50 [marathons] before by 50th birthday in 2015,” he said.
