Teams from over two dozen law firms faced off to claim the court during the Landau Lawyers League 2009 Fall Basketball Playoffs. Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges defeated Mayer Brown during the semi-finals then went on to vanquish Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith in the “A” division championship game. MVP Trevor Sparks led the Quinn team with 20 points while Player of the Game Jeffrey Murphy of Lewis Brisbois scored 14 points. The “B” division kicked off with a tie-breaker between Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker and Western Center on Law and Poverty. With a final score of 43-37, Paul Hastings went on to conquer Free Agents in the quarter-finals but was eliminated by Holland & Knight in the semi-final round. The championship game pitted Holland & Knight against the team from Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, which had knocked out O’Melveny & Myers and Hogan & Hartson in previous rounds. Brian Guth of Holland & Knight earned Player of the Game by racking up 22 points but it was not enough for the win. Stroock triumphed, earning the title of “B” division champions. Squaring off in the “C” division final game were Yukevich Calfo & Cavanaugh and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. Player of the Game Paul Bost of Manatt scored 12 points while MVP Francis Sillona scored 16 points to lead Yukevich to the win.
