Public Counsel held its 2012 William O. Douglas Awards dinner Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel received the Douglas award. Warner Brothers Entertainment General Counsel John Rogovin accepted the corporate achievement award on behalf of the studio. David Johnson, a Public Counsel board member, received the Founders award. Sullivan & Cromwell received the pro bono award, which was accepted by partner Michael Steinberg. U.S. House minority leader Nancy Pelosi and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa were among the luminaries who attended the dinner. The event raised $2.5 million for Public Counsel, which is the largest pro bono legal services organization in the nation.
