Gordon R. “Sam” Overton, 1949-2017

Longtime deputy attorney general Gordon R. “Sam” Overton, who spent much of his 35-year career at the Department of Justice in Los Angeles working for disabled and LGBT equality, died last month. He was 68.

Retired deputy attorney general Gordon R. “Sam” Overton, who worked at the California Department of Justice in Los Angeles for more than 35 years, died unexpectedly June 11. He was 68.

A longtime advocate for the disabled and LGBT communities, Overton suffered cardiopulmonary arrest not long after checking himself into Providence Tarzana Medical Center, according to family members and friends.
