Fraud defendants say DA stalling evidence hearing

Attorneys for a group of defendants accused of perpetuating a $150 million Medicare fraud scheme asked a judge on Friday for two more weeks to review an enormous trove of documents they received from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office shortly before a scheduled evidentiary hearing.

An attempt by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office to delay a potentially embarrassing evidentiary hearing fell short after a judge ordered it to take place in two weeks.

L.A. County Superior Court Judge Larry P. Fidler informed a packed courtroom on Friday that he would continue the hearing to Aug. 18, cautioning counsel that this is the last available date for the case on his 2017 calendar.
