State high court rules in favor of scanner information disclosure
The state Supreme Court ruled Thursday that data gathered by police license plate scanners is not entitled to protections given records of investigations.
When the state Supreme Court heard oral arguments earlier this year over a request for data gathered by police license plate scanners, Justice Goodwin Liu characterized the practice as “a mass vacuuming of data.”
That mass vacuuming, the high court announced Thursday, is not the same as a criminal investigation and will not receive the same protections.
