A bill signed Saturday by Gov. Jerry Brown will authorize courts to issue protective custody warrants for juveniles if a child is determined to be in immediate danger.
Prior to the passage of AB 1401, there was some ambiguity as to whether courts had the authority to remove a juvenile from their home without the filing of a petition, said Assemblyman Brian Maienschein, R-San Diego, in his statement on the bill he authored.
