San Francisco is first city to sue Equifax for data breach

San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera sued the consumer credit reporting agency Equifax Inc. on Tuesday over a recent data breach that the city’s attorney’s office claims affected millions of Californians and many more nationwide.

San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera sued the consumer credit reporting agency Equifax Inc. on Tuesday over a recent data breach that the city’s attorney’s office claims affected millions of Californians and many more nationwide.

Filed in San Francisco County Superior Court, the lawsuit alleges that Equifax failed to maintain reasonable safety procedures and improperly notified affected California residents of the breach.
