LOS ANGELES — The president of a testing company urged spectators and lawyers in a courtroom on Tuesday to pull out their calculators and check his math as he drew calculations on a drawing pad in the witness box.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Elihu Berle, presiding over the bench trial on whether coffee makers and sellers must label their products as having a link to cancer, did not pull out a calculator.
